There are many differences between using TweetDeck to complete searches and using search engines. Below is a picture of what TweetDeck looks like on Twitter:
TweetDeck is an application that is downloaded directly onto your computer. TweetDeck is used to make personalized columns for yourself on Twitter, and you may customize these columns with any areas of interest. In my example I have included a column with #googleanalytics, Google, Lady Gaga, and #ladygaga. Here are three major differences between using TweetDeck and using search engines:
1. On TweetDeck, you see the trends of your topic of interest in real time. This means that when anyone posts a tweet about your area of interest, you see that tweet appear in real time. You will notice that for more popular topics the column tends to have non-stop movement with tweets which you can see posted in real time.
2. If you have your column open to posts from all users on TweetDeck, it may be difficult to trace the credibility of the information posted. Twitter is an open website in that anyone can post anything they want to. This may create a rise in credibility issues on certain topics.
3. Using a search engine, you can search for information from years ago very quickly. On TweetDeck, the information tends to be only the most recent.
TweetDeck is a useful application that allows you to follow your favourite people and topics in real time. I personally liked this application and will definitely be using it in the future.
